DUTTON SHOULD PULL SPRINGBORG INTO LINE

The Federal Member for Griffith, Terri Butler MP, today hosted a Health Stakeholders meeting in her electorate with Hon. Catherine King MP.

“Making sure everyone has access to healthcare is an important issue for everyone in Griffith, so I really appreciated Ms King taking time to meet with local stakeholders,” Ms Butler said.

Those at the meeting were particularly concerned with the ongoing doctors crisis in Queensland.

“The Queensland Government is waging war on the doctors in this state and attempting to force “Work Choices” style contracts into our health system,” Ms Butler said

“And we hear today that Mr Springborg is prepared to replace the whole medical workforce rather than negotiate in good faith with senior medical officers.

“Queensland’s public hospitals are at risk of losing our best and brightest. It’s well past time the Federal Minister stepped in and pulled his Queensland counterpart into line.”

The previous Federal Labor Government invested record levels of funding for health in Griffith, including:

  • $7.5m towards the GP Super Clinic in Annerley,
  • $6 million for new first class surgery equipment for the PA Hospital
  • $13m to establish a new clinical training centre at Greenslopes Private Hospital
  • $40m to construct a Translational Research Institute at the PA Hospital to help research cervical cancer, diabetes and musculoskeletal disease
