Last night the 7.30 program revealed Medibank Health Solutions, the private company contracted to run the 1800RESPECT service, has received 64 complaints about the service, far exceeding evidence given to Senate Estimates just weeks ago.
In Senate Estimates the Department of Social Services claimed there was a total of 33 complaints provided to the department, 18 of those related to first-response counsellors.
The 7.30 program also revealed that counsellors have logged more than 200 complaints about the new service directly from distressed women who are unable to get through to a trauma counsellor.
Minister Porter must explain these apparent discrepancies in 1800RESPECT complaints, to ensure that complaints made by vulnerable women regarding the 1800RESPECT service are being responded to.
