Making it safer to blow the whistle on wrongdoing

I am currently part of a parliamentary inquiry about how to create a pro-whistleblowing culture in Australia.

In recent weeks our inquiry has heard from international experts in whistleblowing, based right here in Queensland. Professor AJ Brown and colleagues from Griffith University spoke to the inquiry, as did Ethicos Group founder Howard Whitton. As well as being an expert who has worked with international bodies including the OECD and the UN, Howard is a Southsider.

The inquiry is being conducted by the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Corporations and Financial Services.

Committee members were very grateful to hear from Prof Brown, Mr Whitton, and a number of other witnesses who came forward to give their views about what can be done to improve private sector, public sector, and not-for-profit integrity.

If you're interested you can find the submissions to the inquiry, they are here: http://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Committees/Joint/Corporations_and_Financial_Services/WhistleblowerProtections/Submissions

The inquiry is ongoing.
